Vision, values and future plans

Find out more about the ethos behind Pilgrims Hospices work and our plans for the future.

Vision

Pilgrims Hospices vision is to be regarded as the leading provider of hospice and specialist palliative care services for the people of east Kent and to promote the delivery of palliative care across this area.

Mission

To sustain, develop and deliver a full range of in-patient, day hospice, community support, bereavement and pastoral care from our hospice sites at Canterbury, Thanet and Ashford.

In order to achieve this, we need to carry out activities in four clearly defined but inter-linked areas, called Cornerstones. The focus of all our activity should be the patient, families and carers.

The “Cornerstones” explain each of the four main elements of the plan.

Cornerstone One – Services

To ensure that the services delivered continue to be fully appropriate for the needs of patients, their families and carers. These services are delivered to the highest professional and ethical standards in collaboration with other healthcare providers.

Cornerstone Two – Finances

A key enabler of Cornerstone One is good financial management. Adequate funds and control of its application in an efficient manner to maximise its availability to sustain and develop the services offered. Also to be accountable to the public and other stakeholders in a way that is transparent and understandable.

Cornerstone Three – Our People

To be renowned for the quality, expertise and professionalism of all staff and volunteers. They will be well motivated with a clear sense of purpose and identity. They will be proud to work for Pilgrims Hospices and the charity will be proud of them.

Cornerstone Four – Our Future

Very few organisations can stand still and not change to meet differing demands and new environments. Pilgrims plans to face future challenges and opportunities, some of which are currently unknown, with enthusiasm and creativity. Learning to grow, improve and adapt.

Plan

Pilgrims Hospices has launched a plan which outlines the direction of the charity for the next five years, from 2009 – 2014. The documents below describe what is hoped to be achieved and how it is planned to do it.
