Hospice Care Week 2017: Christopher Reid - A Scattering

Immensely moving. Reid is a first-rate poet; this is his best book to date.

– Wendy Cope

Christopher will read from his poetry collection A Scattering. It is a tribute to his wife, Lucinda Gane, who died in October 2005. The collection consists of four poetic sequences; the first written during her final illness, and the other three after her death.

A Scattering explores what it means to love and to lose your partner to a serious illness.

Tickets are available using the contact information above or from Waterstones, 8 Rose Lane, Canterbury CT1 2SJ.

When we talk about death, and indeed grief, it can often be the end of the conversation. It is Pilgrims hope that poetry can help us to put words to some of the unnameable feelings and thoughts around losing a loved one. We hope that poetry can support us to talk openly and honestly about what it means to face a life limiting condition alongside our friends and family.

About A Scattering

A Scattering was winner of the Costa Prize 2009 and shortlisted for the Forward Prize.

Presented in partnership with the School of English at the University of Kent.

This event is part of Hospice Care Week (9 – 15 October 2017) and Canterbury Festival (14 October – 4 November 2017).

This year’s Hospice Care Week theme is ‘We are hospice care’. It’s an opportunity to show the many faces of hospice care and to share these inspiring stories. From nurses to volunteers, chefs to chaplains, corporate partners to carers, this theme is about celebrating everyone involved in providing and supporting hospice care.
