Support for children

Forgotten mournerThe death of a relative affects the whole family including children. It is a natural response in families to want to protect children from the difficult circumstances the family is facing.

Children can access the counselling and social work services free of charge from Pilgrims Hospices before, during and after their relative’s illness. Bereavement support is equally important for children.

When needed Pilgrims Hospices multi-professional team can provide resources and guidance to parents or carers to help them talk to the children in the family.

Children’s Days are organised for children who have experienced the death of a relative who has been under the care of Pilgrims Hospices. Please contact the counselling department at the Pilgrims Hospice closest to you or read the leaflet for more details.

Forgotten Mourners study days are held termly and are designed to help people working with children and young people in education to address issues of bereavement and loss.
