Moonlight Walkers Dance through Deal Streets

Women dressed in tutus, pirate costumes and bunny ears took to the moonlit streets of Deal on Saturday 4th June. Over 240 women walked, strolled or danced the 5km Moonlight Walk for Pilgrims Hospices as the town played host to the night-time walk for the fourth year in a row.
The night’s activities started at Tides at 8pm with local DJ Johnny Lewis from kmfm getting the walkers and their supporters in a party mood and a barbeque providing sustenance before the walk. The women headed out to the seafront at 10pm following the route along the beach and finished back at Tides.
Karen Kenward, Regional Fundraising Manager said; “It was a fantastic evening, the walkers entered into the party spirit and wowed us with the effort they put into their costumes. There was an incredible party atmosphere and a great sense of camaraderie. We’d like to thank everyone who walked and the team at Tides for all of their support.”
The ‘Night to Remember’ event appealed to women who wanted a good night out with their friends as well as those who are taking part in memory of a loved one. A memory wall was placed in Tides for walkers to add names, photographs and memories of loved ones and some of the women customised their t-shirts to add names of loved ones.
Karen continued; “Pilgrims Hospices cares for over 2000 people in east Kent every year. Over 75% of the hospices’ funding comes from the local community. The amount of money raised by the walk will be known when all of the sponsorship money has been handed in, so we’d encourage walkers to get it to us by Friday 29th July.”
Thanks go to all the staff, volunteers, raffle prize donors and our sponsors who helped make the evening so special. The sponsors were Tides Leisure Centre, Tilmanstone Salads, Westwood Cross Shopping Centre, Cloke Scaffolding, Balloonarama and KMFM.
Those who couldn’t take part in Deal needn’t miss out. Karen continued: “We have two more Moonlight Walks this year, one in Herne Bay on 18th June and one in Broadstairs on 20th August, so if you didn’t get a chance to come to Deal, you needn’t miss out on the fun!” You can register online or call 01227 782062.
