Oyster Bowls Club Raises £1,050

Posted on 9 April 2013

The Ladies from the Oyster Bowls Club in Whitstable handed over a cheque for £1,050 last week to Pilgrims Hospices, after having chosen the charity as their charity of the year.

The indoor bowls club, which has ladies and gentlemens teams chooses one charity each year to support and organizes fundraising events for that year. The ladies team captain, Peggy Simpkins, chose Pilgrims Hospices as it was a cause close to her heart. She said: “Many of our players have first hand experience of the care that the hospice can provide. We are delighted to be able to hand such an incredible amount of money to such a worthy cause.”

The money was raised through a series of events throughout the year including raffles, which were supported by local businesses. Laura Duncan, Fundraising and Marketing Assistant, was delighted with the total raised: “The ladies from the Oyster Bowls Club have worked really hard to raise an amazing amount of money for Pilgrims Hospices. They should know that their contribution will enable us to provide over 50 hours of nurse care for those people with serious illnesses.”
