Pilgrims patient and carer packs: Sue and John Kitt

Pilgrims Hospices has launched new resources for patients and carers coping with a life-limiting illness.

Together with East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust (EKHUFT), Pilgrims can now provide additional support through new patient and carer packs.

Wendy Hills, Pilgrims Hospices Director of Nursing and Care Services, said: “When patients receive the news that they are nearing the final stages of life, they and their carers will have a range of feelings and concerns.

“At this time, it’s really important for everyone to consider their own needs and wellbeing. Patients and carers may have questions around what will happen or what to do when the time comes. They might also be unsure about what support is available to them. We hope these packs will give people helpful information so that they can be empowered to live well in each moment.”

Patient and carer packs are available online from Pilgrims website:

Pilgrims support patients and their carers in many different ways. Their Wellbeing and Social Programme aims to enhance wellbeing in mind and body, and they offer a supportive carers programme within this.

In 2016, Pilgrims celebrated Carers Week with a programme of events for carers and families. It was a chance for carers to find out more about Pilgrims services, develop practical skills and receive emotional support.

Pilgrims knows that having the right support can help patients stay independent and improve symptoms. It can make a big difference in enabling patients, and their family, friends and carers to live each day well.
