A Piece of Cake
It’s a Piece of Cake Week
21st – 27th April 2012
Bake, Buy, Enjoy, Donate!
Fundraising for your local Pilgrims Hospice doesn’t get tastier than this. Hold a coffee morning, tea party or just enjoy a piece of cake. Your cake eating will help fund vital support for patients and their families.
It’s a Piece of Cake week will take place from 21st – 27th April 2012 so it’s time to get those recipes at the ready, work out what you are going to bake, who you are going to sell your cakes too and how much you are going to raise for Pilgrims Hospices.
Celebrity Supporters
Everyone is joining in with the fun! Paul Hollywood, star of the Great British Bake Off has donated his scone recipe and Wendi Peters, actress and celebrity Masterchef finalist has let us in on the secret of her amazing carrot and ginger cupcakes.
How do I get involved?
It’s as easy as a piece of cake! Get some of your favourite people together to eat delicious things and donate to Pilgrims Hospices.
- Decide on a few details, when and where you will have ‘a Piece of Cake?’
- Think of who you’d like to invite.
- Will you bake or buy? Will you ask your guests to bring their own cakes?
A good mix – let everyone know!
- Use our invitations and poster to invite your friends, family, colleagues and neighbours. Contact us if you’d like some printed copies.
- Tell your local newspaper what you have planned, think of any good photos that could go with your story.
- We’d love to hear about your plans on facebook too!
- Invite your friends and followers on your own facebook and twitter sites.
All the right ingredients for a good event
Our hospice chefs have donated their recipes. Which will you try first? The macaroons or the brownies? If you have some recipes of your own to share why don’t you let us know on our facebook page? Our younger fundraisers may want to try making something sweet from their favourite cbeebies recipes.
Once you have planned the cakes and drinks for your guests you can turn your attention to some fun activities for them too;
- Have you tried to eat a doughnut without licking your lips?
- Perhaps you could have a guess the weight of the cake competition?
- Can your guests guess which cake is which with their eyes closed?
- If you are really creative why don’t you give your guests a chance to decorate some cupcakes or gingerbread men?
- Hold a raffle. Ask local businesses to donate some prizes. You’ll be surprised at how generous people are if they know you are fundraising for a good cause.
- Choose a theme if you want. Perhaps it could be a vintage high tea or a mad hatters tea party?
- Perhaps have a literary theme – we can start you off with a cake poem.
Cooking on Gas! – on the day
- Let your guests know that you are raising money for Pilgrims Hospices; we can provide lots of information and fundraising materials such as balloons.

- Thank your guests for coming.
After you’ve had your cake and eaten it…
- Upload some pictures on our facebook page.
- Let your guests and the local newspaper know how much you raised.
- Send in the money raised by dropping it in to your nearest hospice or sending it to Supporter Services, Pilgrims Hospices, 56 London Road, Canterbury, CT2 8JA.
It’s never too late to get involved…
We hope you don’t need much of an excuse to eat cake and raise money for Pilgrims Hospices! Feel free to use the Piece of Cake resources on this page at any time of the year.
