Description

This half study day is aimed at nurses who wish to develop/maintain clinical skills in using syringe drivers. The course aims to support practitioners in developing skills in using syringe drivers in the context of a problem solving approach to symptom control.

As a result of attending the study day, delegates will:

Understand the indications and rationale for the use of a syringe driver.
State the differences between MS26 and MS16 syringe drivers
Identify sites that may be used for infusion by the syringe driver.
Cover the common drugs used, their possible combinations, dosage and benefits
Have an opportunity to take part in a practical session
Calculate doses for infusion
Identify problems that may occur when using the syringe driver.

The session is designed to increase awareness - it does not include any assessment of competency/proficiency.
