Description
This half study day is aimed at nurses who wish to develop/maintain clinical skills in using syringe drivers. The course aims to support practitioners in developing skills in using syringe drivers in the context of a problem solving approach to symptom control.
As a result of attending the study day, delegates will:
- Understand the indications and rationale for the use of a syringe driver.
- State the differences between MS26 and MS16 syringe drivers
- Identify sites that may be used for infusion by the syringe driver.
- Cover the common drugs used, their possible combinations, dosage and benefits
- Have an opportunity to take part in a practical session
- Calculate doses for infusion
- Identify problems that may occur when using the syringe driver.
The session is designed to increase awareness - it does not include any assessment of competency/proficiency.
