‘Kind, compassionate and practical’: Pilgrims Hospices Caring Collection Service

Pilgrims Hospices is offering a new service – Pilgrims Caring Collection – to families, carers and friends having to undertake personal possession clearance.

It can be difficult when faced with the need to clear someone’s personal possessions from their home.

Pilgrims’ team of sensitive staff are now on hand to help you deal with this responsibility and decide what to do with unwanted items. They will help pack and take any items that can be re-loved and sold in Pilgrims shops, or sent to auction to raise vital funds for hospice care.

Pilgrims supporter Mrs. R shares her experience of the service:

“My father spent some time in Pilgrims Hospice Ashford the year that he died. Due to the care and support he and my mother experienced there, I contacted Pilgrims when my husband and I had the sad task of clearing their house.

They were kind, sensitive, compassionate and very practical. All of this was comforting and consoling. It’s lovely to think that things my parents owned might now find new homes and be useful to somebody else. Most importantly, it’s great knowing that sale proceeds will benefit Pilgrims; it’s such a worthwhile cause. I think my mother and father would have been pleased.

“My parents died very close together in time, and working through their belongings was a deeply emotional experience. Most of their possessions went to family and friends, but there were many items – furniture, housewares, books and clothes – that we simply couldn’t accommodate.

“I asked Pilgrims if they’d be interested in some items for their shops. The Retail team offered to come out with a van to move larger items. They were kind, sensitive, compassionate and very practical, wrapping large or fragile items. They were so appreciative of our donations, and enthusiastic about how pictures and old-fashioned kitchenware would suit Pilgrims vintage shops.

All of this was comforting and consoling. It’s lovely to think that things my parents owned might now find new homes and be useful to somebody else. Most importantly, it’s great knowing that sale proceeds will benefit Pilgrims; it’s such a worthwhile cause. I think my mother and father would have been pleased.”
