Everyone at Pilgrims Hospices is dedicated to ensuring people living with a terminal illness can access the quality care and comfort they deserve, when and where they want it.

To achieve our vision, we have made six pledges to you – our community.

As well as over 35 years' experience caring for the people of east Kent, these pledges are rooted in the very latest national research.

1) I am treated as an individual

I am given the opportunity, with my family and friends, to have honest, informed and timely conversations about my care – and about my End of Life choices.

I am asked what matters most to me. Those who care for me know what I want and work with me to achieve that where possible.

I get good access to care regardless of who I am, where I live or the circumstances of my life.

My care is regularly reviewed. Every effort is made for me to have the support, care and treatment that I need. I am supported to be as comfortable and as free from distress as possible.

My care is coordinated. I have a care team around me who know my needs and my plans. They work together to help me achieve them. I can always reach someone who will listen and respond, at any time of the day or night.

Wherever I am, health and care staff bring empathy, skills and expertise. They all give me competent, confident and compassionate care.

I live in a community where everybody recognises that we all have a role to play in supporting each other in times of crisis and loss. People are ready, willing and confident to have conversations about living and dying well and to support each other in emotional and practical ways.
