With the summer comes Pilgrims Vintage Tea and Fair

Pilgrims Hospices Vintage Tea and Fair will take place at the Tower House, Westgate Gardens in Canterbury on Saturday 15 July. After the roaring success of last years’ event, Pilgrims would like to invite everyone to share the afternoon tea party with traditional cream teas, cakes, luxury vintage craft stalls and more.

Sophie Douch, Pilgrims Hospice Fundraising Officer said: “Last year saw 100’s of visitors enjoying mouth watering cream teas in the beautiful gardens while helping us to raise much needed funds. Everyone is really looking forward to another perfect vintage afternoon tea.

“I’m very fortunate to have such a lovely group of volunteers who help me to prepare the refreshments and stalls for the event. There will be plenty to entertain everyone.”

Regular Pilgrims volunteer Sandra Cook has been busy coordinating cake baking and will be serving supporters on the day. In order to achieve a wonderful vintage afternoon tea will be served in cups and saucers specially selected from Pilgrims vintage shop in Canterbury.

Elaine Newman is also a regular Pilgrims volunteer, has been collecting beautiful teddies for the vintage teddy tombola. Elaine said: “I thoroughly enjoy being involved with Pilgrims events and who can resist a beautiful teddy? I hope lots of visitors come and try their hand at winning one. Each teddy tombola ticket sold will make a difference for those who need Pilgrims help the most.”

Bev Newton is the General Manager for Pilgrims three shops in Canterbury and has been busy with her team locating the lovely crockery, table linen and items that will make the tea and fair really special. Bev’s team of staff and volunteers will also have a grand selection of beautiful outfits, hats, and costume jewellery plus much more for visitors to purchase on the day.

Expect luxury craft stalls, homemade jams and chutneys and the famous Pilgrims plant stall with interesting plants grown by volunteers and gardeners at the hospice. There will also be an amazing Pilgrims tombola, which has been supported by many local businesses and friends of Pilgrims Hospices. A magnificent raffle with an array wonderful prizes donated by local businesses and supporters, including a meal for two at the Michelin star Sportsman, return Eurostar tickets and a Macknade Fine Foods hamper; it should be a fantastic fundraising day.

Don’t forget to bring a bag for your purchases!

To ensure you enjoy your afternoon Pilgrims supporters KDJazz Band, Ukelear Power and the Oysters Morris Dancers will be performing throughout the afternoon. Our magnificent Pilgrims staff and volunteers will be keeping the tea and cake flowing, and will be getting into the spirit of the day by dressing in vintage outfits.

Each year Pilgrims supports hundreds of local people coping with a life limiting illness and their families. The charity offers a range of services: from end of life care given on its wards, to its new wellbeing and social programme supporting people after they are diagnosed to live well and stay independent. Care is provided from three hospice sites in Ashford, Canterbury and Thanet as well as in patients’ own homes.
