Superstore’s Hospice help!
Posted on 29 December 2016
This year the volunteers at Pilgrims Hospices in Canterbury have had the opportunity to undertake a whopping 32 collections at local superstores throughout Canterbury, Herne Bay, Whitstable and Faversham!
The fundraising team at the Canterbury hospice were offered a range of dates throughout the year at Marks & Spencer, Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, B&Q and Macknades. A team of dedicated volunteers undertook shifts at the various collections armed with buckets and flyers for upcoming fundraising events, the hospice mascot ‘Raffles’ dancing around and a friendly face to receive donations from some very generous shoppers. These super successful collections allowed an amazing total of over £6,000 to be raised throughout 2016.
Leading up to the Canterbury Christmas Market, the hospice was also allowed to collect chocolate and bottles for the tombolas to be held at the market, and received incredible support from customers at the local collections. This made a huge impact on the success of the Christmas Market and played a big part in helping the event to raise over £8,500!
Whilst supermarket collections are clearly important to help the hospice raise the funds they need each year, it is also a great opportunity for our volunteer ambassadors to get out into the community and spread the message of the hospice. They often find people wishing to chat with them about their personal connection to the hospice and the experience that a loved one had here, which the volunteers find an extremely rewarding part of their time.
If you would like to join us as a volunteer to help with supermarket collections, we are always looking for new people, and would ask for a couple of hours every now and then to help raise thousands of pounds for hospice care!
Sophie Douch, Community Fundraising Officer, said: “Thank you so much to all of the local superstores for allowing us to undertake a brilliant range of collections throughout 2016 and to raise an incredible amount for Pilgrims Hospices. Thank you also to our trusty team of volunteers who give up their time to help and get out into the community for us! We are looking forward to another year of successful store collections in 2017.”
