Cakes Rise for Northwood WI
With less than a week to go until Pilgrims Hospices launches its Piece of Cake fundraiser, some talented supporters started getting creative with cake early!
The Northwood Women’s Institute gathered together and baked an array of delicious cakes and raised £135.50 for Pilgrims Hospices at St Marks Church, Ramsgate on Saturday 13th April. The event comes in the lead up to the Piece of Cake week, which runs from 22-26 April this year.
Fay Bell, President of Northwood WI said; “All our members had a fabulous time, elbows deep in eggs and flour, creating masterpieces for our cake sale.”
Fundraising Manager, Karen Kenward said “We are really grateful to all the ladies for their hard work. The Piece of Cake campaign is also open for all to enjoy and there are lots of simple ways to get involved. Why not bake a special cake, biscuit or sandwich and donate the proceeds to Pilgrims Hospices or host a baking event such as an afternoon tea or bake off then encourage guests to make a donation?”
“We need to raise £10.5 million each year in order to be able to provide palliative care services free of charge to the local community and we receive over 75% of this from the local community. Fundraising is of vital importance and it is only through the continued generosity of supporters such as the Northwood WI group that enables us to provide the care to all who need it in east Kent.”
