Pilgrims Hospices Annual Review Meeting - November 2017

Pilgrims Hospices are inviting the wider public, along with staff and volunteers, to review the Pilgrims journey at our Annual Review Meeting on 27 November at our Ashford hospice Therapy Centre.


Every day in east Kent 19 people receive the news that they have a terminal illness and have less than a year to live. That number is set to rise by 2020. As the whole UK population ages, and demand for end of life care increases; all hospices will need to increase the services they offer so they can reach more people. Already Pilgrims has achieved a great deal on this path, thanks to our amazing local communities.

Our vision is of a community where people with a terminal illness and their family and friends are supported and empowered to live well in mind and body until the very last moment of their life.

We rely heavily on the support of people throughout east Kent. In fact, around three quarters of our funding comes from our generous communities, which allows us to continue to provide expert care for those facing a terminal diagnosis, and their families. We’d love you to join us as we review our year in care and discuss our plans for the future. It’s also a chance to look back together over the last year and share the progress that’s been made with our supporters.

Cate Russell, Pilgrims Chief Executive, said: “Pilgrims started small 35 years ago, with the vision of one district nurse who wanted to make a difference. Today we have more than 200 Pilgrims nurses and therapists supporting thousands of people each year across east Kent. We have already grown a huge amount since those first beginnings. Then, in 2015, we launched our 2020 vision: a pledge to reach more people, support them earlier after a terminal diagnosis and empower each person, their family and friends to live each moment well. We are making great progress with this vision, and your support has meant we can do more for our patients.”

From the dedicated people who attend our events in their thousands, to those who take on personal challenges like skydiving or marathons, to knitters and bakers making items for our fairs, we’re always humbled to see how you go to support Pilgrims. We are a local charity and we owe the community – supporters and corporate partners – a huge ‘thank you’ for all you have helped us achieve this past year. Without you there would be no hospices and we are always grateful for the contributions you make.
