Jeff Barker sings with The Denmark Street Big Band

Jeff Barker, Kent’s premiere swing entertainer was back at The Winter Gardens on Saturday 6th July with his legendary “Las Vegas” charity evening for Pilgrims Hospice Thanet.  This time he was fronting one of the UK’s top Swing/Jazz bands The Denmark Street Big Band.   Jeff hosted the event in memory of close friend Liz Moody who sadly died in December 2012.  Liz and her husband Brian Moody, local photographer played a large part in launching Jeff’s career with their photography.  Jeff said “Playing with The Denmark Street Big Band was one of the top moments in my life and a fitting tribute to Liz.  To raise £2,600.00 for Pilgrims Hospice was the icing on a perfect cake.  Thank you to everyone for your support in making this happen for me”.

Jeff, true to style with three costume changes played to a packed house with an amazing mix of music.  The dance floor was full to the end with crowds asking for an encore.

Karen Kenward, Regional Fundraising Manager for Pilgrims Hospices said “I would like to thank Jeff for his energy and enthusiasm in putting together this gig to support our charity.  It was great to see so many people enjoying themselves and getting into the swing of the beat”.

Pilgrims Hospices need to raise in excess of £10.5 million each year in order to be able to provide palliative care services free of charge tothelocal community of eastKent. The majority ofthese funds come from the generosity of our own local community. .
