Light Up the City Raises £13,000!

On the 20th October 2012 over 700 walkers and runners took to the streets of Canterbury sporting all sorts of neon outfits and raised over £13,000 for Pilgrims Hospices.
Deborah Kellond, Regional Fundraising Manager was delighted with the total amount raised: “We were totally overwhelmed by the number of people who turned out for Light Up the City 5k run and 3k stroll around our lovely, historic city. It was a very windy, wet evening but this didn’t deter the participants who arrived in their droves! This was only the second year that we had put on the event and are really pleased that it seems to capture’s people’s imaginations and is going from strength to strength. We did not expect to raise as much money as we have and people were still bringing in their sponsorship money as late as last week! We had great support from our headline sponsor Furley Page and sponsors the Military Fitness Academy and the Running Outlet. Special mentions and thanks to the Forest of Blean Rotary Club played a huge part in organizing the 50 marshals on the night, Bodywell, Run & Race, Tony Seymour & the planning group, Giles Seaford, Ben Trott & Ella Brocklebank.
The London Road hospice needs to raise in excess of £9.5 million each year in order to provide palliative care free of charge to over 2,000 members of the local community each year and the extensive calendar of events is just one of the many ways in which income is generated.
Light Up the City will be held on Saturday 26th October 2013 in Dane John Gardens, Canterbury. There will be a 5km run and a 3km stroll, aimed at families.
