Part Time Cook – Ashford (fixed term contract)

Pilgrims Hospices is looking for a friendly Cook to join our team on a part-time, fixed term contract basis for 3 months, to produce fresh meals for patients and staff according to a daily menu at our Ashford hospice site.

The Role

The role of the Cook is integral to the smooth running of the hospice kitchen.  The Cook is responsible for producing fresh meals for patients and staff according to a daily menu as well as deputising for the Head Chef where appropriate.

Food Service

  • Preparing a variety of hot and cold food, cooked to a high standard.
  • Producing nutritionally balanced meals for patients, staff and visitors according to a daily menu.
  • Liaising with other professionals in respect of special diets, that might be required for individual patients.

Other Duties

  • Ensuring the required standards of cleanliness and hygiene are maintained at all times.
  • Providing supervision and guidance to Catering Assistants.
  • Deputising for the Head Chef as required.
  • Maintaining paper and electronic records as instructed by the Head Chef.

Working Arrangements

This is a part-time role (28  hours per week) on a 7-hour day basis for a fixed term of 3 months. Working days will be between Monday and Sunday. The successful candidate will be required to work early and/or late shifts.   You will be provided with on-site parking, a uniform and subsidised meals during your work day.

About You

To be successful in this role you should:

  • Have experience of working in a professional kitchen or similar environment
  • Possess Basic Food Hygiene Certificate and / or relevant catering qualifications
  • Ability to work using own initiative and without supervision
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
