Events Fundraiser (Stewardship and Marketing)

Pilgrims Hospices are looking for an Events Fundraiser who is hoping to develop their fundraising career in a compassionate and collaborative environment. A prerequisite and working knowledge of events fundraising is advantageous, as is a creative eye. The postholder will ideally have a flair for creativity and innovation, with outstanding supporter relationship management skills; to help enhance income generation through mass participation events. Creative skills in Adobe or Illustrator would be advantageous or a keen wiliness to learn these skills.

However, most importantly we are looking for somebody with the right mindset; a relationship builder at all levels. An individual full of personality, a team player, who is highly organised and with a can do attitude.

The Role

Due to a recent restructure this post has arisen. This is an exciting time to join Pilgrims Income Generation function; the events team have won leading charity sector awards over three consecutive years for innovation and technology, both on a national and local scale and are in period of development for which this role will be integral.

The postholder will help to support the delivery and operation of Pilgrims Hospices extensive events portfolio; it’s digital innovations and creative fundraising products, with a specialist focus on participant stewardship and marketing. The department covers; Hospice-wide events, 20+ challenge events per annuum, plus virtual and digital solutions; including Pilgrims own bespoke events app. The role will support the Events & Digital Fundraising Manager to deliver the portfolio of more than 20 events per annum, raising in excess of £400K+.

The postholder will be responsible for stewardship and supporter experience. Our focus is to put the participant at the heart of Pilgrims’ supporter care; through event recruitment, cultivation, stewardship and partnerships across the east Kent catchment area. The role includes helping to market and promote the events, with a focus on writing compelling copy for online and offline promotion.

Our aim is to ensure all fundraising activities are delivered to the highest standards, that fundraising events including virtual, interactive and physical activities are well-planned, exciting, unique, creative and challenging.

Working Arrangements

This is a full-time role (35 hrs per week). The role is based at Pilgrims Hospices’ Head Office in Canterbury. A minimum of three/four days a week are required in the Hospice with hybrid working for the remaining hours. Flexibility will be required for working days during peak periods and this does include weekend and evening work, for which time-off in lieu will be given.

Due to the nature of this role there are a number of essential requirements. Please read the job description in full. These requirements are:

  • That you have a full UK driving licence with access to your own vehicle for business use and willingness to travel throughout the designated area.
  • With this role being in events and the logistics involved; it is essential that you are able to drive Pilgrims fleet of vehicles. This includes Luton lorries, long-wheel-base transits, chiller vans and hybrid transit vehicles.
  • You must also be able to erect extensive fundraising equipment including: gazebos, branding, tables, catering equipment, stages, weights, displays stands, route signage & the transportation of fundraising collateral. During the peak event season (Summer and Festive) there is concentrated & busy activity relating to logistics & operations for events & being physically active is required for this role. Manual handling & specific training will be given.

About You

To be successful in this Events Fundraiser role you should:

  • Demonstrate a good understanding of the principles, methods & management of events & supporter led fundraising
  • Have an understanding of the principles of relationship development either commercially or ideally charitable
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Have a broad knowledge and understanding of the principles of marketing and use of social media to promote fundraising activities
  • Have good IT skills – able to use of word-processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint, databases, email and social media
