Volunteer Coodinator

Location: Canterbury, Kent

Status: Permanent, Part-Time, 3 days per week (21 hours)

Salary: £17,578.80 per annum (£29,298 per annum FTE)

Pilgrims Hospices are looking for a personable, organised and self-motivated Volunteer Coordinator to oversee the development of communications, recruitment and co-ordination of our over 1,000 volunteers working across the hospice settings.

The Role

As a member of the HR function, the Volunteering Coordinator  will to support the Head of HR & Education in delivering a high quality, effective and efficient service to our volunteer workforce.

Your main duties will include:

  • Delivering organisational-level communication across the volunteer workforce to keep them updated and informed delivering regular news, updates and information.
  • Working with volunteer forum groups to improve the volunteering experience at Pilgrims Hospices.
  • Raising awareness of the role and the function of volunteers. Recognising individuals skill sets, knowledge and experience; understand and signpost to where these skills would be best suited within the organisation.
  • Responsible for the development of effective volunteer recruitment systems, processes and materials to make opportunities available, attractive and clear to potential volunteers and the application process easy and straight forward.
  • Developing a strategy to improve the volunteering opportunities and adverts in order to attract a more diverse, scope, skilled and age demographic across our volunteering population.
  • Overseeing our database of volunteers and to support our volunteer administrators to maintain it in line with data protection guidelines.

The post holder must ensure that services are provided to a high standard.

Skills and Experience

To be successful in this Volunteer Coordinator role you should have:

  • Experience or knowledge of developing and delivering engagement programmes, linked to staff or volunteer engagement and surveys.
  • High level interpersonal skills displaying credibility, resilience and influence to deal with a diverse range of people.
  • Ability to communicate verbally with good copy writing skills and deliver concise information in in a manner which is clear, fluent and persuasive.
  • Excellent I.T. skills, experience with digital media design packages (e.g Canva, in-design etc).
  • The ability to cope with limited resources, seize opportunities and think creatively.

Working Hours 

The post based at our Canterbury Hospice Site for 21 hours per week. The post is highly visible and will regularly travel between our workplaces to keep in close contact with our volunteer teams.
