Canterbury Christmas Fair raises £5,000!

Posted on 27 November 2012

Hundreds of people poured into Pilgrims Hospice Canterbury at the weekend to enjoy the Christmas Fair which raised an incredible £5,000!

Stalls filled both the hospice and office buildings as heavy rain had fallen earlier in the day.

Volunteers, day patients, families, friends and supporters rallied to make the event a success offering secondhand books, chutney and preserves, cupcakes, raffles, soft toys, art and craft items, tombola and Christmas gifts.

Father Christmas was in his grotto,  assisted by elves and therapy dogs Eva and Elsa, who were cunningly disguised as antler wearing ‘reindogs’!  A lengthy queue built up throughout the event to meet them all.

Herne Bay Concert Band brought a festive note to the occasion playing carols in the hospice’s main reception area.

Regional fundraising manager Deborah Kellond said: “I would like to thank everyone involved for their hard work in making the event such a success. It’s fantastic to have raised £5,000 and that will of course be put to good use towards running the hospice.”
