Great Valley Run’s Triumphant Return!
Posted on 3 January 2013
The Great Valley run has been firmly on the late December calendar of events for the local residents of Bishopsbourne and the surrounding villages for the past eight years. 2012 was no exception and with a different organising team of Luke Bicknell and Mary Starrs, the fun event attracted over 100 runners and walkers who dressed in their most outrageous costumes and ran 10k or walked 5k through the muddy fields before returning to the Mermaid Inn for a well-deserved drink! Walkers were treated to a glass of mulled wine at the wonderfully-restored Bekesbourne Station which is the home of Jan Knott and his partner, Sandy.
A camera crew captured the spirit of the event and gave it a boost on local ITV’s Meridien News. The organisers are waiting to count final money but early predictions suggest that the money raised for Pilgrims Hospices will be at least £850.
Deborah Kellond, Regional Fundraising Manager, said “Yet again, I am overwhelmed with the work that our volunteers do in aid of Pilgrims Hospices. This is such a great way to get involved, have fun, get some exercise and raise vital funds for charity. A big thank you to everyone who helped Luke and Mary to stage this event and ensure that it continued for yet another year.
