570 determined runners took part in this year’s Canterbury Half Marathon which is held at Merton Farm. Despite the unkind weather participants flocked from all over Kent, London and out of county too. Eve Boulton aged nine from Ashford has been busily making loom bands throughout her summer holiday and has sold them to family and friends raising the fantastic sum of £87. A huge thank you to the lovely ladies from the Soroptimist International Canterbury group who presented Pilgrims Hospices with a cheque for £650. A huge thanks to the team at Canterbury door security firm, Akon Security, who challenged Canterbury Police Station to a football match for charity. Keen mountain biker and commuter cyclists, Mike Howland and Sam Giles, completed the Pilgrims 100 in May, only having invested in second-hand road bikes in November! Thank you to Sarah Kitteridge who cycled from London to Paris in July to raise £340 for Pilgrims Hospices. The team cycled from London to Newhaven and then hopped on the Ferry to Dieppe and then cycled to Paris. We would like to say thank you to Lee Bentley for organising a football match on Sunday 3rd August. The match was held at Chartham memorial field where Juventus Football Club took on Chartham Real Stars and raised £126.56 for Pilgrims Hospices. Septum Masonic Lodge raised £777.96 for Pilgrims Hospices at their ladies night. Thank you very much to everyone who supported the event. Elaine Finlay, Canterbury volunteer, kindly accepted the cheque from outgoing president, Graham Hogben at the Red Lion in Dunkirk.

A huge thank you to English in Action for raising an incredible £1940 for Pilgrims Hospices and particularly in memory of Ben Edge and Sally Burgess. Their quiz and fun night went really well and the organization and directors donated additional money to make up this fabulous total.
