Guide to online fundraising and sponsorship
Some helpful tips to get you started
Look us up online
Set up your own fundraising page
You can use Just Giving to set up your online fundraising page. The site has a really easy step-by-step guide. A picture is worth a thousand words. Plenty of upbeat and vibrant pictures will help your page stand out.
Set a target. Think about how many people you know and what they might be able to support you with on average. You can add in any other fundraising you might do (for example collecting cans are available to put in your local shops/pubs/clubs). See our fundraising checklist for more ideas.
Spread the word
Tell everyone you know! Email your fundraising page address to all your contacts and use social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter to make the most of your contact lists. Add your fundraising page to your home page or create an event.
Stop press! Let your local newspaper and radio station know what you’re up to and why. Include your fundraising page address to any email you send and attach photos too if you have them.
Online tribute funds
If you are taking part in an event in memory of a loved one then you may wish to set up a tribute fund. A tribute fund allows you set a dedication to your loved one. You can upload pictures, videos, music and retell your treasured memories. You can then create an event page so friends and family who wish to donate can read your story and about your passion to raise funds for Pilgrims Hospices. Click here to find out more.
If your sponsors are UK taxpayers then their donation can be increased by at least 25% if they tick the Gift Aid box and provide their home address.
Finally, thank everyone who’s supported you and let them know how much your joint efforts have raised after the event.
